Our Finances
Valeways faced difficulties after the Vale of Glamorgan Council and other government grants were withdrawn progressively from 2013. However, as a result of successful grant applications over the last three years the charity now holds substantial reserves. The Trustees are confident that these and ongoing income sources are sufficient to maintain the current operations for a number of years.
In recent years the most significant grants have been from the Vale Tourism Association, the Simon Gibson Trust, the National Lottery, the Heritage Lottery and Strong Communities. In the main these have allowed us to deliver specific projects to promote and deliver walking benefits.
We have acknowledged all those organisations that have provided grants and all the significant donors on the Sponsors page in our website.
We claim Gift Aid from the Government on donations from individual donors who pay income tax – we are able to claim an extra 25% of the donations from HMRC, at no cost to individual donors.
The current level of income does not require the accounts to be independently audited.
Expenditure is split between recurring items and project costs. The recurring expenditure is mainly office costs, but also includes training, printing and stationery, insurance and web hosting. The recent projects include developing the Adopt a Path scheme, the History of Cadoxton walk, the website, document management redesign and path marker roll out.
Full details of our finances can be found in our Annual Report and Accounts for the year ending 31 March 2023.
